Why do you want a ‘desktop experience’ so badly? Metro affords the ability to see two apps at once. What is it about the windows-and-taskbar paradigm you don’t want to lose?

It doesn’t do any harm as long as everything is sized to the screen and not pixel-for-pixel like on a desktop browser.

I think that’s because it feels weird to hold a 16:9 device in portrait, though. It’s a reason to go 4:3, not a reason not to.
